Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

One of the most widespread occupational health problems today is carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), affecting millions of people every year. With our growing reliance on computers, there seems to be no end in sight.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

There are several different ways to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. In most cases, a chiropractic adjustment is extremely effective.

Causes of CTS

The direct cause of this syndrome is pressure on the median nerve, just above the wrist. It is possible for pressure on this nerve to be caused by an injury or a misalignment in the back or neck, but more commonly, it comes from common repetitive motions, such as:

  • Typing
  • Chopping
  • Hammering
  • Pushing

  • Wrist pain
  • Weakness in the wrist or hand
  • Loss of grip strength
  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • A burning sensation
  • Loss of sleep due to discomfort.

What Can Chiropractic Do?

There are a number of ways this condition is treated, including chiropractic. A chiropractic adjustment to the affected area is usually an extremely effective solution. In cases where a misalignment in either the back or neck is the source of the problem, chiropractic manipulation of the neck and/or spine may also be an effective treatment.

In most cases, these chiropractic treatments (along with physical therapy and exercises for stretching and strengthening) alleviate and eventually eliminate the symptoms associated with carpal tunnel syndrome.
